Jess & Less talk about self-care (for activists and people troubled by the times), Standing Rock, Bresha Meadows...and Hamilton.
Oh, the election of November 8, 2016. Jess & Less talk about the election and do a post-mortem of what went wrong, and share a bit about their thoughts on what is coming in the days ahead. They also encourage you to visit feminactivist.com to read the blog!
Less & Jess try make links between the hypocrisy of patriarchy while discussing the DAPL pipeline protests, the acquittal of the Bundy militia, the double-bind of being a woman when dealing with reproductive health/contraception and men who can't even get through a clinical study for male birth control. BECAUSE ACNE AND MOOD SWINGS!
Jess & Less talk about the UN report on women's rights in the United States and the white, secular, western bias in the international development community.
Less & Jess grab their tin-foil hats and talk conspiracy theories, from the zany and mind-boggling flat Earthers to the misogynistic and super-fucking-irritating "conspiracy" that anytime a woman reports that a powerful man raped or sexually assaulted her, it's just to bring the guy down.
Less & Jess talk about Haiti & Hurricane Matthew, Trump and why "grabbing her pussy" is horrifyingly problematic on many levels, Bill Clinton, and why we're totally over the general election (BUT VOTE, PEOPLE! ESPECIALLY DOWN TICKET!).
Jess & Less talk about the world's oldest profession. We discussed the gamut of sex work from willing and enthusiastic participation to the horrors of sex slavery with sex trafficking. We put forth ideas on how to change the stigmas attached to sex work and remove it from patriarchal control.
Jess & Less talk about self-subjugation, porn, fashion, and try to figure out where the line is between choosing something because it feels right/empowering to you, and doing something that perpetuates patriarchy/to please others.
Less & Jess pick up where they left off talking in part 1 of the dating episode (woo hoo, double feature!), and talk about what feminism looks like in a relationship, whether it's a new or established one.
Jess & Less launch into a conversation about what dating is like for feminists, and men who don't like dating feminists. Bonus: some bad date stories!
The conversation was cut off at around 42 minutes, so we apologize for that abrupt ending.
Jess & Less talk about campus rape, the Brock Turner case/protests, and bring on a guest, Alex, to share about his perspectives on rape culture and the sexual assault of a young woman named Kayla, who was raped while attending the University of Cincinnati.
Less & Jess talk about the various ways that female bodies are policed, whether literally (such as with the burkini ban in France) or in various other social ways, such as dress codes at schools, workplaces, etc., and the no-win way that fashion and perceived attractiveness restricts women.
Jess & Less talk about guns and their role in domestic violence, and whether or not they are an effective tool for self-defense.
